Abstrak

Stress is a common situation that can be experienced by anyone especially undergraduate nursing students that has quite a lot of academic demands. WHO states that around 450 million people in the world experience stress. According to several study, self-care on undergraduate nursing students reported poor regarding physical and mental health that impacted by stress. This study aims to identify is there a correlation between stress level and self-care on undergraduate nursing student. The research design used correlational study with a cross sectional approach. The population of this research were undergraduate nursing students from University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin. The sampling technique use accidental sampling with 92 respondents. The data collection used questionnaire and spearman rank for the statistic test. Based on the results of the research, it showed that stress level is on moderate level, physical well-being tend to be low p value = 0.010, mental well-being tend to be high p value = 0.035, and social life tend to be high with p value = 0.043. The low physical well-being because of the stress that also could be from lifestyle and habits. As mental health and social life that respondents still within high range show that they keep mental and social life as coping mechanisms. Therefore, there is a correlation between stress level and self-care on undergraduate nursing student. Suggestion for undergraduate nursing students to identify and choose proper coping mechanism.
